Suwannee High School (SHS) has selected Isabella Washington as its Student Ambassador for the 2026-2027 school year.
Washington, an 11th-grade student, is actively involved at Suwannee High School as a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society, Key Club, Interact, Art Club and Leo Club. She is also a cheerleader and participates in basketball and flag football.
Washington said she was excited to learn she had been selected for the position, viewing the opportunity as a chance to experience a new environment while representing her fellow students.
“I was excited because I knew becoming the Student Ambassador would open me to a new environment and new opportunities,” Washington said. “We have many wonderful students here and to be chosen for this role is a great honor.”
As Student Ambassador, Washington will attend Suwannee County School Board meetings and serve as a student voice, sharing the perspectives, accomplishments and concerns of her classmates.
“I’m ready to reflect the positive side of school and also shine light on the smaller activities on campus,” she said.
Washington believes her experience as the junior class president will help her represent students in a positive and professional manner. She also hopes the position will encourage her to become more comfortable speaking up and advocating for herself and others.
One of her priorities will be making sure students know they have someone willing to listen.
“I would like to let my fellow students know that their voice will be heard and I’m ready to hear their opinions,” Washington said.
Washington said one of the things she appreciates most about Suwannee High School is the variety of opportunities available to students. From academics and electives to career-focused opportunities through RIVEROAK Technical College, she believes students have opportunities to explore their interests and begin thinking about their futures.
She also describes the culture at Suwannee High as one centered around school spirit and community.
“We have a mix of everyone here and with this being a small town everyone knows each other so we have a strong sense of community,” Washington said.
Looking beyond high school, Washington hopes to attend college and pursue a career in engineering or architecture. She believes serving as Student Ambassador will help prepare her for that future by giving her experience working with and communicating with a variety of people.
As she begins her year as Student Ambassador, Washington is looking forward to using her position to highlight the accomplishments of Suwannee High School students while ensuring their voices are heard at the district level.
