2021/2022 has been a busy school year for the SHS Green Team!Members have made inspirational posters to spread positive messages and environmental awareness around campus, recycled paper and cardboard, participated in campus clean-ups, and even found time to make a few tie-dyes.
The Green Team also hosted its first annual Tree-Plenish event, which helps offset our paper usage at SHS. We surpassed our goal of 60 trees and actually helped add 178 trees to beautiful Suwannee County. Following our Tree-Plenish event, we shared the importance of Arbor Day through morning announcements, and have applied to become an official Tree Campus K-12 school through the Arbor Day Foundation.
Most recently, we worked with Master Gardener Carol Sullivan, of the Sparkleberry native Plant Society, and planted native plants in the courtyard. This is an ongoing project, and we will hopefully fill our courtyard with native plants by the end of the 2022/2023 school year. If you love our planet as much as we do, then come join the Green Team at SHS. We meet in Mrs. Hendry's room every Wednesday after school. Hope to see you there!
