In order to compare themes in different mediums, students read poems and illustrated themes of the poems on quilt squares. Students determined the common theme between the poems was "people must have hope". Two quilters from the community, Donna Newton of Sew Unique, and ESE teacher Tammy McKay taught the students how to piece and finish the quilts. These ladies contributed numerous hours and all the supplies for this project.

Additionally, Beta Club conducted a blanket drive. These were donated, along with the six Hope Quilts, to the United Way for distriibution to local people in need.

This project enabled students to contribute to the community in a meaningful way while completing requirements for their English class.
